The Board Chairman has called for an election to fill vacancies on the MPERS Board of Trustees for two unexpired terms. Nominations open September 15, 2026. Both positions are for a term beginning October 1, 2026 (if uncontested) or November 1, 2026 (in the event of an election) with the Chief District II term ending on June 30, 2027, and the Non-chief District III term ending on June 30, 2029. If only one candidate qualifies, that candidate takes office without an election. If the race is contested, the candidate receiving the most votes wins. The full schedule may be viewed below.
A member who is an active, contributing chief of police with four or more years of creditable service (excluding military credit and service cancelled by a refund) shall be elected to the board for a term of five years from Chiefs District II, which shall be composed of the parishes of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, and West Baton Rouge.
A member who is an active, contributing non-chief of police with ten or more years of creditable service (excluding military credit and service cancelled by a refund) shall be elected to the board of trustees for a term of five years from a district to be called Non-chief District III, which shall be composed of the parish of Orleans.
