About MPERS

Executive Director

Ben Huxen has been serving as MPERS’s Executive Director and General Counsel since July of 2017. He came to MPERS from the Louisiana State Senate, where he served as a senior attorney for the Finance and Judiciary A committees. Prior to the Senate, Ben served as Executive Counsel and as Chief Advisor to the Commissioner of Administration. Before joining the Division of Administration, he worked at both the Attorney General’s and the Legislative Auditor’s Offices.

Huxen received his Juris Doctor from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center and is a CPA and board certified tax law specialist. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Political Science from LSU. Huxen also served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for six years as a cannon crewmember in the Washington Artillery.

History

Act 189 of 1973 established a statewide retirement system, effective July 1, 1973, which was placed under the management of a Board of Trustees for the purpose of providing retirement allowances and other benefits for full-time municipal police officers and employees in the state of Louisiana, secretaries to chiefs of police, and employees of this retirement system.
